SM MALL OF ASIA-
v.2 [(edited )Pardon me for not not having runway pics from last night's Premiere B Collection but RCXY can't wait to give his two-cents any longer. Here's the rundown of the designers collection and my fearless talak.]
I'm so glad that my designer friends-Tina Daniac and John Paras, did not disappoint!
Let's start with:
Czarina Villa- MJ-ish
Czarina 's collection had strong influences from Marc Jacobs' S/S 2007 minus the gemstone-filled hat which make it quite a bore. Pretty? Yes. Wearable? Yes. 2009? No.
Eric de los Santos- Sexy Samurai Warriors
There's beauty in simplicity. Eric's red, black and gray body con short dresses and Yamamoto-esque long dresses were my favorites. There's nothing new with his slashed out dresses but how he used the technique was enough to call his dresses beauty with rock and roll edge. It is as if his models went to a samurai-fight with Ninjas and stylishly slashed out. There were references to Japanese flag's rising sun in red and gray and black and gray without being overdone. Many young designers should learn a thing or two from Eric by knowing when to stop. And he did stop at the right moment without sacrificing the strength of his collection.
John Paras- First Lady Appeal
First glance at the collection and you'll think Chanel. Knowing John Paras' taste for class and elegance, his collection reflected a modern interpretation of50's-60's silhouette of Jackie O-esque tweeds. Inspired from First Ladies and Upper East Sider's 'Ladies-who-Lunch", John's ensemble breaks boundaries of age. Friendship aside, John has the most forward collection. Trend for 2010 is dissolving generation boundaries- clothes that appeal to matured women because of the luxury involved and at the same time coveted by the young simply because it looks expensive. His use of tweeds are sexy which makes it palatable for the young and were softened by right amount of embellishment. The pieces are conservative and still playful which would appeal to mature consumers. Although, Chanel-esque, John has found his design niche and made it his own.
Mich Dulce-New Look? New Look! New Look. Hmmm.
Mich's tailoring is undoubtedly impeccable, no question about that. Mich's collection, however is comparable to an adolescent who can not decide if she's young enough to wear her beautifully crafted printed draped shirts repeatedly or old enough to become a lady in pencil skirts. Otherwise, I like everything.
Pia Gladys Perey-New Jersey (?)
Draped jerseys? Really?
Tina has the shortest hem in the catwalk as of press time! Surprisingly, the voluminous embellished tulle which were staples from this designer in each of her fashion week presentation were non-existent- a refreshing approach by the designer. Instead of focusing on volumes, Tina collaborated with Wedoodledo- a group of young, well, doodlers, to draw quirky doodles, in black ink over what could have been a flat white base. A right amount of sparkle were present and I personally love the short silver sequined micro-dresses and uber-short skirts which were both playful and sexy.
Side dish:
Models! Models! Models!
FRESH FACE Irish Ong- 15-year old highshcool student. Oriental-look. Skinnier than skinny jeans. Scene Stealer.
Manet Mercado- too much ka girl....relax
Ria Bolivar- Gimme more!!!
That's Owl.
