FROM GLAM TO BAM-BAM-BAM!

Thursday was party overload! 2 mayjah events happened that night. One was METROWEAR, Metro magazine's bi-annual fashion show, this time featuring FDCP's and YDG's Holiday 2009 3-pc collection. The other one is Fluxxe's fourth anniversary. Can't believe Fluxxe survived for 4 years.

To all of you who weren't able to attend, here's the lowdown.
Everyone was well-dressed. A lot of beautiful people, personalities, fashion insiders, social climbers, and designer friends- not new in this kind of shows, were in attendance. And I mean it as a good thingh. The energy was high. Not enough wine , though. Hosts were Joey Mead and G Toengi (Yes, she's back!) I had the honor of shooting her nude for my Aug.5 exhibit and I must say that she is absofuckinglutely flawless!!! Mabait pa.

Robby Carmona directed the show so the usual "Robby" elements are present. DJ Brian Cua, Radha, violinist Jay Cayuca and world-renowned UST chorale provided live music for each segment.
The 3-storey stage was humongous!

The segments represented trends for the holiday season as interpreted by the design associations FDCP (Fashion Design Council of the Philippines) and YDG (Young Designer Guild). The key holiday trends, according to them, are: Shakespeare, House on the Prairie, Enchanted, and Guggenheim (which I totally disagree, but that's just me).

The show's opening spot for the event's sponsor, Samsung was my favorite. Suits with soft air brush effect and some look like they were painted over with a bright color were the most interesting I've seen that night.

Shakespeare

Vic Barba opened the show with influences of equestrienne (a sport he plays) styled in a very chic street Parisienne manner. Elizabethan detailing were made in textured fabrics. Aries Lagat interpreted the theme like how Elizabethan would look like on the 23rd-century in white exaggerated collar trench and an interestingly cut assymetric men's suit. Frederick Peralta did variations of flapper like dresses embellished with white ribbon rosettes and beadworks. JC Buendia created a sleek silhouette and took important Elizabethan details and modernized it like that cuff of his red suit-dress. John Herrera repeated his summer pieces, this time in black. We want more, John! Randy Ortiz did a trio number of tailored suits in charcoal and played with drapings, ruchings, and layers of different textured fabrics to create a dark, romantic and opulent effect.

House on the Prairie

Anthony Nocom's menswear are in ash blue, chambre, denim and navy. Very relaxed and fit for classic men. Louis Claparols went soft and romantic in bright floral print dresses. I like how he paired a military jacket in one of her dresses. Gerry Katigbak did bias dresses, as he always does. Hindy Weber- Tantoco's collection are fairy-tale punk in nude. Raw shreds were sewn on to create a floral pattern and that rawness of nude over nude were dramatic and sensual. Styled simply with net gloves, and black tulle skirt, it was an interesting marriage.

Enchanted

I should say Rajo Laurel was my number one favorite of the night. Rajo had the most-chicest, very now pieces. Blue shredded jersey created that Rodarte-effect over his perfectly sculptured shoulder and smooth hour-glass silhouette. Eric de los Santos went all disco-fiasco in beaded multi-color teardrop patterns in 70's silhouette.

Guggenheim

This is the most exciting inspiration of the show, the trendiest to say the least. Regine Dulay and Veejay Floresca sculpted strong shoulders by interlacing cut fabrics to create an architectural silhouette. Jerome Lorico was a winner in his gray-colored menswear in soft shiny fabric filled with metal details softened with tucked drapes fit for neo-industrial men. Edwin Ao came up with 2-tone suits. Avel Bacudio did faux-layering suit jackets. Joey Samson interpreted the architectural theme by creating what looked like bare scaffoldings. Jojie Lloren showed off his masterful cutting skills in minimalist and seamless stand up collars through pleating like origami.
