"This is not a fact until you officially read it somewhere else but rumour has it that Karl Lagerfeld will not renew his contract at Chanel and that Albert Elbaz will take his place and Olivier Theyskens will take Albert's place at Lanvin. Both choices make perfect sense to me. Schaparelli has decided to change directions and do a not so expensive line . Nothing is engraved in cement, these are still just rumours you will have to wait and see."
If this is true, then it's good for Chanel. It's about time to give Chanel a different edge. Women have changed since post-recession era. Alber defines the woman Coco was in her days. Where would Uncle Karl go? He could probably focus on his own line. His F/W 2009 didn't quite make a noise and the only thing Chanel remains on the top is it's BIG runway sets and the infamous Karl Lagerfeld. Design-wise, they are left behind. Chanel, I observed, is just being loved now for their heritage and luxury. Nothing wow-worthy when it comes to pieces. People would rather get Double C parodies than the original. It's about time Ch-ch-changes is made. Olivier Theyskens, on the other hand, deserves a seat like Lanvin, if ever he stamps the deal. It's a big dirrrty finger to Nina Ricci if that happens (as if Nina Ricci didn't quite had enough of Anna Wintour's cold shoulder).
